No hay más Led Zeppelin

By

</P><P> </P><P>¿Y a ti? ¿Qué te parece todo esto?</p>

SXSW Surprise: Mark Wahlberg Sits In On Seth MacFarlane Panel

MacFarlane and Wahlberg discuss their forthcoming live-action collaboration 'Ted' at the SXSW Film Festival.
By Kara Warner

The talent booked for the "A Conversation With" panels at this year's annual South by Southwest Film Festival were big enough draws to warrant very long lines of fans and hopeful attendees eager to spend an hour and a half with the likes of Joss Whedon and Seth MacFarlane. Whedon's panel delivered a few fun newsy bites about "Marvel's The Avengers" and his surprise adaptation of Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing."

MacFarlane's panel took the surprise element to the next level in presenting the enthusiastic audience with eight minutes of footage from his upcoming live-action directorial debut, "Ted," as well as the very raunchy red band and the very special guest appearance of star Mark Wahlberg.

The "Family Guy" mastermind and "Fighter" star spoke enthusiastically about their shared experiences making the R-rated buddy/ semi-romantic comedy, which revolves around the friendship between a grown man (Wahlberg) and his childhood best friend, a magical talking teddy bear (voiced by MacFarlane), and how that gets in the way of his romantic relationship with girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis).

MTV News was lucky enough to chat with MacFarlane and surprise guest Wahlberg after their very well-received panel on Sunday, during which their mutual admiration for each other along with their genuine love for the film were obvious.

"He was a huge pain in the ass, man, he asked for $70 million, the bastard," MacFarlane joked about the difficulties in getting the actor/producer to sign on.

"I only got $65 [million]," Wahlberg countered. "Sometimes you gotta make compromises in this economy."

"This was a natural fit from the get-go," MacFarlane said about their partnership, before being interrupted by a noisy bird squawking in the tree overhead.

"What the f--- kind of animal was that?" Wahlberg asked, causing MacFarlane to bust out in laughter. "First I thought it was Henry. I've never heard that kind of squeak ... it's up there somewhere."

"Do you all have spider monkeys here in Austin?" MacFarlane joked, before getting back to explaining why Wahlberg was the perfect choice for the lead role.

"It was a good fit from the get-go. It's a balance tonally for the script, it had to be funny and at the same time it had to be real," he said. "It was kind of a comedic tightrope. It was a very contemporary style of comedy and on top of all that, the actor was going to have to interact with empty space most of the time.

"The thespian," Wahlberg corrected.

"Yeah, the thespian," MacFarlane said with a smile. "This guy just knocked it out of the park."

"I just fell in love with the script," Wahlberg admitted about what interested him in playing opposite a CG teddy bear to begin with. "I read the script before I had the opportunity to meet with Seth and before, I think, there was any interest from him in me playing the role. Even the premise, it all depends on who's telling you the premise because it could sound really great or really ridiculous. As soon as I read the script, literally 30 pages in, I forgot that it was a teddy bear. I loved the relationship between these two guys and also the relationship with the female character, Mila's character."

And while there are plenty of sweet, warm, fuzzy moments between the two best friends, this is a Seth MacFarlane movie, so there are just as many outrageous moments that will have audiences rolling in the aisles.

"Mark gets into a pretty full-on 'Bourne Identity'-esque fistfight with his teddy bear, which is definitely something I don't think people have seen before," MacFarlane revealed.

"I think what's pretty outrageous as well is that the teddy bear is having sex with the checkout girl at the back of the supermarket on top of a bunch of fresh produce, and instead of getting terminated, he gets a promotion because of it," Wahlberg added.

"It does happen."

Wahlberg and MacFarlane's live-action collaboration "Ted" opens in theaters nationwide on July 13.

'Hunger Games' Premiere: Our Favorite Tweets So Far!

Like good tributes, you sent MTV News some clever questions before tonight's red-carpet live stream at 8:30 p.m. ET on MTV.com.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

We thought we were excited about tonight's live stream from the "The Hunger Games" red carpet, but by the looks of your tweets, we're not nearly as excited as all of the fans!

The festivities kick off Monday night (March 12) at 8:30 p.m. ET on MTV.com, when MTV News' Josh Horowitz and Christina Garibaldi come to you live from the red-carpet premiere of the film you've all been waiting for: "The Hunger Games."

But before you strap on your quiver, bow and arrow for the big event, we asked you to tweet us some questions and comments for the cast on the red carpet. Like the good tributes that you are, you tweeted a ton of interesting questions to @MTVNews using the hashtag #AskHG, and you should continue to do so right up until the live stream.

We've rounded up some of our favorite tweets so far. While they're not necessarily the ones we'll ask on the carpet, these definitely made us smile.

@Stevie_Daisy: @MTVNews #AskHG To Jennifer Lawrence, during scenes with Lenny Kravitz, were you jealous of 'Cinna's' sparkly gold eye liner? :P

We genuinely want to know the answer to this. Admittedly, Lenny did look pretty awesome in his eye liner, but how does the Girl on Fire feel about having to share the glam spotlight?

@Skylir19: @MTVNews @thehungergames -- Will there be as much nudity (or semi-nudity, re: the PG-13 rating) as there is in the book? #AskHG #IHopeSo

This tweet gets our vote for asking a question most people want to know about but are too afraid to ask. Given the opportunity, most people would ask about nudity.

@SwagMusic2: "I will never say never" RT if you are a belieber Katy cat little monster or hooligan!!! #AskHG#DONE #GirlFacts #Shoutout #justsayin

We're not totally sure if @SwagMusic2 understood the assignment, but you have to admire that entrepreneurship and RT-baiting.

@kaitmaree77: @joshuahorowitz #AskHG What is Jennifer Lawrence's favourite Anchorman and/or Ace Ventura scene/quote? Fellow fans wonder!

File this one under questions we didn't know we wanted the answer to. ... It's just so out of left field that it's kind of brilliant.

@kitkat11181998: #askHG If you were in a real hunger games and it was down to you and your most loved one, what would you do?

Inappropriately dark, yet oddly intriguing.

MTV News goes live from the "Hunger Games" red-carpet premiere tonight! Tune in to our live stream from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. ET as Josh Horowitz catches up with the stars and asks fans' burning questions!

'Bill And Ted 3' Will Explore 'Rock' History, Alex Winter Says

'We're happy with what we wrote,' Winter tells MTV News, confirming that he and Keanu Reeves reprised their characters while developing script.
By Josh Wigler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Alex Winter
Photo: MTV News

God gave rock and roll to you, and if you're lucky, he'll give you a brand new "Bill and Ted" adventure as well! That's the plan, at least, according to one half of the dimwitted duo: Alex Winter, who starred as Bill Preston Esq. in both "Excellent Adventure" and "Bogus Journey," isn't just hoping for a "Bill and Ted" reunion, he's getting close to making it actually happen.

"I think the reality is that there probably will be another one," Winter told MTV News during a recent interview about his new Napster documentary, "Downloaded." Indeed, Winter and co-star Keanu Reeves both recently confirmed that a third "Bill and Ted" script is finished (and totally excellent). Of course, given how long it's taken to get the third movie off the ground — "Bogus Journey," their last appearance, hit theaters in 1991 — arriving at a universally agreed-upon idea wasn't an exact science.

"We just kicked ideas around [over the years] and eventually, we kicked one idea around that clicked," Winter said. "It felt timely. Funnily enough, it felt better because so much time had gone by. What would it be like to revisit those guys now? From a comedy standpoint, it felt kind of cool to revisit two galvanized comic characters a chunk of time later, [exploring] what you can do with that from a comedy perspective."

Though much time has passed between the last "Bill and Ted" and now, Winter admitted that it's "very possible" that Bill and Ted themselves, despite their age, haven't grown up with the times — though he would neither confirm nor deny their current maturity level. What he would say, however, is that the next "Bill and Ted" adventure would focus heavily on the rock and roll spirit that's always been present in the franchise.

"What's happened to rock and roll in the last 20 years? The movie's going to get in and play with some of that stuff," he said. "Where is rock? Where are we? What's happened to the whole idea of saving the world — or what hasn't happened? There's a lot to play with there."

There's so much to play with, in fact, that Winter and Reeves both slipped into character on more than one occasion while developing the new "Bill and Ted" script.

"Yes, we did. It's really sad how easy it was [to get back into character]," he laughed. "You go away and do all this other stuff and go, 'I'm not Bill, that's absurd!' ... And then me and Reeves got together, and suddenly we're the characters again. We didn't even mean to. We just started riffing on it. When we were doing notes and me and Reeves started riffing on the dialogue, it's just, oh my god. Yeah, it's in there. God knows."

"Bill and Ted 3," which has a title that Winter won't reveal just yet ("But it'll say it all," he promised), still has obstacles in the way. No, there are no Evil Us's to consider, but the script does not yet have a green-light. According to Winter, though, he's more than happy with the project as it stands, even if it never makes it to the big screen.

"It's something we think is a very fun thing. We had a lot of fun developing it, and the guys are amazing writers," Winter said of working with longtime "Bill and Ted" writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon. "We had a lot of fun with the script. We're happy with where it's at now. If it goes forward, great. If it doesn't, we're happy with what they wrote and what we came up with."

Tell us what you think of the most excellent "Bill and Ted" news in the comments section!

Them Crooked Vultures make their debut with a post-Lollapalooza set.
By James Montgomery

<P>Officially, <a href="/news/articles/1617945/janes-addiction-killers-turn-up-heat-on-lollapaloozas-last-day.jhtml">Lollapalooza ended Sunday night</a> in Chicago's Grant Park, with dueling sets from <a href="/music/artist/killers_the/artist.jhtml">the Killers</a> and <a href="/music/artist/janes_addiction/artist.jhtml">Jane's Addiction</a>. Unofficially, it ended <i>very</i> early Monday morning, across town at venerable rock club the Metro, with a surprise show by Them Crooked Vultures. </P><P> </P><P>To the unfamiliar, the Vultures might seem like an odd choice to close out Lolla weekend ... until you realize that they're made up of <a href="/music/artist/foo_fighters/artist.jhtml">Foo Fighters</a> frontman/ former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, <a href="/music/artist/queens_stone_age/artist.jhtml">Queens of the Stone Age</a> mastermind Josh Homme and <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a> legend John Paul Jones. And their gig at the Metro was their world premiere. </P><P> </P><P>According to <a href="http://blogs.suntimes.com/derogatis/2009/08/them_crooked_vultures_at_metro.html" target="_blank">some reports</a>, the Vultures actually turned <i>down</i> Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell's request to replace the Beastie Boys as headliners at the festival, opting to debut in front of some 1,100 super-psyched fans at the Metro, rather than 75,000 in Grant Park (tickets for the gig were announced via Foo Fighter/ QOTSA fan clubs). Meaning that, in a lot of ways, this was the most sought-after ticket in town. </P><P> </P><P>Taking the stage just after midnight, the Vultures &#8212; Grohl on drums (of course), Homme on guitar and vocals, Jones on bass and keys and frequent QOTSA contributor Alain Johannes on guitar &#8212; ripped through 12 songs in 80 minutes, all taken from their upcoming debut, which may or may not be called <i>Never Deserved the Future,</i> and may or may not be hitting stores on October 23 (early "promo" videos touting both those facts were revealed over the weekend to be hoaxes perpetrated by QOTSA fans). </P><P> </P><P>The songs, with appropriately Homme-ian titles like "Scumbag Blues," "Mind Eraser (No Chaser)," "Caligulove" and "Interlude w/Ludes," sounded pretty much how you'd expect, given the band's pedigree. They rocked, hard &#8212; <a href="http://leisureblogs.chicagotribune.com/turn_it_up/2009/08/concert-review-them-crooked-vultures-at-metro.html" target="_blank"><i>Chicago Tribune</i></a> critic Greg Kot described them as "fresh, invigorating and just plain nasty" &#8212; delving off into psychedelic, reverb-filled excursions and exploring proggy territory, "both of the old-school Yes variety, and the more modern Tool flavor," according to the <i>Chicago Sun-Times'</i> Jim DeRogatis. </P><P> </P><P>It's not known if Monday's Metro performance was a one-off event for the Vultures &#8212; there have been whispers of a full-blown tour, but a spokesperson for Homme had not responded to MTV News' request for comment at press time. Nor was it clear whether or not they'll have an album out in October. </P><P> </P><P>Early Monday, a <a href="http://twitter.com/crookedvultures" target="_blank">Crooked Vultures Twitter account</a>, which had previously posted links to the band's <a href="http://www.themcrookedvultures.com/" target="_blank">official-looking Web site</a> and the Metro's online ticketing site &#8212; posted a link to what appears to be the group's first bit of official merchandise: a <i>Deserve the Future</i> T-shirt. Cost: $30.</p>

Can the up-and-coming singer shock the world and win MMM? We'll find out when the tournament tips off Monday.

Gotye has already made huge strides in the U.S. thanks to the crossover success of his hit "Somebody That I Used to Know," but now he's looking to truly cement his status as a Stateside sensation ... by winning MTV's Musical March Madness tournament.

The third-annual MMM tips off Monday, and if the Belgian-born, Australian-bred singer/songwriter is really going to best 63 other acts — including defending champs Green Day, heavyweights like the Black Keys and Ke$ha, and up-and-comers Fun. — to hoist the big gold trophy, well, he's definitely got his work cut out for him. So it's a good thing that he's been working hard on the fundamentals ... like the art of the well-placed screen.

"To win, it's going to be all about screening. Screening is the key, people," he explained. "A lot of people in bands don't realize what it's all about, but you've got to screen people, to keep your vocalists at center. It's all about focus and screening, back and forth, not a lot of people know that."

Ah, the screen: Catalyst behind the pick-and-roll ... the old "picket fence" play ... basketball building blocks, people. It's the same time-honored skill Roger Waters used to take home the 1973 Musical March Madness tourney (note: not actually true), and one that Gotye hopes to employ to maximum success in this year's big dance.

"Roger Waters and his 'walls,' he set a lot of hard screens with lots of blocks," he laughed. "If you've got a 10-piece band, keep your main player away from the play, and then at the right moment, just screen the whole audience away, so just one person gets that special look. That's what it's all about."

Actually, winning is what it's all about. Can Gotye shock the world and reign supreme in MMM 2012? We'll just have to see when the tournament gets under way on Monday!

MTV's 2012 Musical March Madness Tournament begins on Monday, March 12, when we'll unveil the full field of 64 bands that will battle for this year's championship. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it'll be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM ... but get ready, it's gonna be a war.

Are Madonna And Britney Spears Collaborating On MDNA?

Amid rumors that Spears will appear on Madge's 'Girls Gone Wild,' MTV News looks back at their history together.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Could it be that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/madonna/artist.jhtml">Madonna</a> has enlisted her pal <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> for <a href="/news/articles/1678197/madonna-mdna-album.jhtml"><i>MDNA</i></a>? </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:623135.id:1657989" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>Well, according to a leaked album jacket, it seems that Spears is making an appearance on the album's lead track, "Girls Gone Wild." </P><P> </P><P>This would mark the second collaboration on the album. Madonna nabbed Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. for the album's first single, <a href="/news/articles/1678478/madonna-give-me-all-your-luvin-video.jhtml">"Give Me All Your Luvin'."</a> </P><P>While the leaked jacket, which appeared on Britney fansite <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/2012/02/britney-on-new-madonna-album/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed" target="_blank">Breatheheavy.com</a>, can't be confirmed as authentic, a rep for Madge had no comment about the rumor, neither confirming nor denying it. Meanwhile, a rep for Spears never returned MTV News' request for comment. </P><P> </P><P>This is hardly the first time that the two ladies have worked together. In fact, they have quite a history with each other. </P><P> </P><P>The duo kicked off their nearly decade-long friendship at the 2003 VMAs when, in case you hadn't heard, they <a href="/news/articles/1669706/britney-spears-mtv-vma-history.jhtml">shared an onstage kiss</a> while performing together. It was the kiss seen and heard around the world, and nearly 10 years later it is still often talked about as one of the most memorable moments in the show's storied history. </P><P> </P><P>After they shared that smooch, Spears was inspired to get the Queen of Pop on her lead <i>In the Zone</i> single, <a href="/news/articles/1658075/britney-spears-me-against-the-music.jhtml">"Me Against the Music."</a> "I was in the middle of rehearsals for the VMAs and I played her the song, and she was like, 'That's your first single, right?' " Britney recalled in a vintage interview with MTV. "I was like, 'Yeah, hopefully.' She was like, 'I really like it.' I was like, 'Really?' I was like, 'Well, you wanna do it with me?' She said, 'Yeah.' " </P><P> </P><P>They later appeared together in the warehouse-set video with one another, playing a pop star cat-and-mouse game that featured a near kiss. </P><P> </P><P>Five years later, as Spears was prepping her return to the pop spotlight, she appeared <a href="/news/articles/1598804/britney-spears-justin-timberlake-appear-onstage-with-madonna.jhtml">onstage with Madonna</a> during a Sticky &amp; Sweet Tour stop at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The singer hit the stage with the pop icon to perform "Human Nature" by her side. </P><P> </P><P>That same year, Madonna appeared in <a href="/news/articles/1600361/britney-spears-talks-breakups-breakdowns-in-for-the-record.jhtml">Spears' documentary, "For the Record,"</a> where she spoke about the younger singer. "I admire her as an artist," the Material Girl said, adding that she sees a lot of herself in Spears. </P><P>In 2011, as Spears was prepping the release of her album <i>Femme Fatale,</i> in an <a href="/news/articles/1659522/britney-spears-plastic-surgery-out-magazine.jhtml">interview with <i>Out</i> magazine</a>, she noted that she truly admires her friend. "Madonna. No question. She is an amazing entertainer," she said when asked whose career she most would want to emulate. </P><P> </P><P>As Madonna preps the release of <i>MDNA</i> in March, Spears is also the topic of conversation in a recent interview with her. When asked by ABC News what it was like to smooch the pop princess, she commented, "Nice moment, good kisser. Cool," she said, clarifying that she wouldn't do it again. "No, I already did it. I don't like to repeat myself." </P><P> </P><P>Well, perhaps a kiss would be "reductive" (her word, not ours), but it seems given the love that Madge and Spears fans have for the two pop stars, they wouldn't mind them cooking up some musical magic. </P><P>The track, "Girls Gone Wild," was teased in a megamix that dropped last week and it certainly feels like it would lend itself to both Madonna and Brit's musical sensibilities: It's fist-pumpingly dance-y, sexy and all about going out and having a good time, with Madge proclaiming, "Girls, they just want to have some fun/ Get fired up like a smoking gun/ On the floor till the daylight comes/ Girls, they just want to have some fun." </P><P> </P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:728690/cp~id%3D1672718%26vid%3D728690%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A728690%26instance%3Dmtv" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="." flashVars=""></embed></center> </P><P> </P><P><i>What would you think of a new Britney Spears/ Madonna collabo? Monkee Davy Jones Paved Way For Heartthrobs Like Justin Bieber

Jones, who died Wednesday, was one of the original multimedia teen dreams.
By Gil Kaufman

<P>There had been plenty of teen heartthrobs before: from Elvis Presley, Frankie Avalon and Paul Anka in the 1950s to Ricky Nelson, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones in the 1960s. </P><P> </P><P>But few of them worked the angles like <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jones_davy/artist.jhtml">Davy Jones</a> did. <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/monkees/artist.jhtml">The Monkees</a> singer, who <a href="/news/articles/1680140/davy-jones-dead.jhtml">died on Wednesday</a> near his Florida home of a heart attack at age 66, was one of the original multimedia teen dreams. Before Justin Bieber blitzkrieged his fans with movies, music, perfumes and nail polish, prior to Miley Cyrus' triple-dipping in TV, movies and music, Jones made the girls cry every Monday night for two years during the prime-time run of "The Monkees," and then did it again when the group hit the road and the toy-store shelves. </P><P> </P><P>Unlike his cohorts in the made-for-TV band &#8212; the serious leader/guitarist Michael Nesmith, the lovable space cadet Peter Tork and goofball drummer/singer Micky Dolenz &#8212; Jones was well primed for the spotlight by the time he auditioned for the show in late 1965. He'd already starred on Broadway in "Oliver!" as a teenager, released an album and been nominated for a Tony Award. </P><P> </P><P>But once he hit the screen as the impish, tambourine-bashing Davy on "The Monkees," Jones belonged to the world. He wasn't my favorite Monkee; that honor went, in order, to slapstick master and dreamy-voiced singer Dolenz and then to bookish, reticent schemer Nesmith. </P><P> </P><P>But watching the reruns of the show as a teenager, I saw an undeniable magnetism in Jones. He had that eagerness to please and boyish charm that comes of children who've spent their lives on the stage. You see it now most clearly in the striving teens desperate for what they think is their one-and-only shot at stardom on "American Idol," or in the ready-for-prime-time song-and-dance modern successor, Nickelodeon's screen-to-stage crossover "Big Time Rush." </P><P> </P><P>The British Jones appeared firmly in his element alongside his American castmates, with the four essentially setting the template for all of reality TV to follow. Cast to play exaggerated versions of themselves in the madcap show, each Monkee had a distinct personality, with the diminutive Jones popping out as the one that made the girls swoon. In fact, his lovability became a recurring joke on the show, with the other three rolling their eyes every time Davy worked his charm on yet another comely beauty as they were left to be his hipster wingmen. </P><P> </P><P>While his cohorts struggled to take the musical lead in the studio from domineering producer Don Kirshner, Jones was happy to smile and smack his tambourine, flip his pre-Bieber mop top and hop to the front to sing the occasional lead on hits such as the #1 smash "Daydream Believer." His poise, comfort and easy charm came through on camera amid all the zany setups on the show, making him the de facto "cute one," a transplanted doppelg&#228;nger for fellow Brit Paul McCartney of the Beatles. </P><P> </P><P>The Monkees were tagged the "Prefab Four" thanks to producers' attempts to create their own Beatles-like sensation by using studio musicians to fill in on recordings for the TV cast. When the real Fab Four retreated to the studio and retired from touring the same month the Monkees released their 1966 debut album, Jones happily took on the mantle of hip-shaking, paisley-wearing, glint-in-his-eye teen dream, even as the rest of the group looked more interested in turning on and dropping ... something. </P><P> </P><P>And, like McCartney, Jones became a cover boy on countless teen mags and a cha-ching maker for the Monkees machine, appearing (with his bandmates) on all the requisite spin-off products you might expect: from Halloween masks to playing cards, packages for Hot Wheels Monkeemobile toys, pens, postcards, lunch boxes, puzzles, charm bracelets, bucket hats, key chains, gum packages, hand puppets and just about anything else you can imagine. </P><P> </P><P>True story: In 2010, Dolenz told me that when the Monkees toured in 1967 with their hand-picked opening act, Jimi Hendrix, the guitar legend was eventually forced to drop off the bill because his playing was often drowned out due to fans screaming Jones' name during his sets. Think about that. Many years ago, when I read a biography of glam-rock icon David Bowie, my mind was blown when I found out that his birth name was David Jones, but that he felt compelled to adopt a stage name because, yes, he feared being overshadowed by a Monkee. I'll give you a minute on that one, too. </P><P> </P><P>It wasn't until years later that I learned that, with the exception of their vocals, the Monkees hardly appeared on their own albums and relied on professional songwriters like Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, Carole King and Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and Neil Diamond for almost all of their big hits. But who cares, right? Because when Davy boogaloo'd out front, Mickey swung his 'fro and beat the drums, Michael strummed the guitar with that impassive look and Peter offered up that adorable blank stare, the dream became real. </P><P> </P><P>"First of all, it wasn't a band," Dolenz told me in that 2010 interview for the <I>Cincinnati Enquirer.</I> "It was a TV show about an imaginary band that lived in an imaginary beach house and had imaginary adventures. Because we were always struggling for success on the show I think it spoke to kids all around the world sitting in their living rooms and garages trying to be the next Beatles. The thing we left everyone with was the bizarre story of the Monkees one day going out on the road and becoming real, which Mike Nesmith used to say was like Pinocchio becoming a real boy." </P><P> </P><P><a href="http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/list-of-the-day/the-top-25-teen-idols-of-all-time.html" target="_blank">Yahoo! Music</a> named Jones the #1 teen idol of all time in 2008, besting the likes of Cyrus, Britney Spears, "The Partridge Family" star David Cassidy, the Jonas Brothers, Backstreet Boys and 'NSYNC. </P><P> </P><P>Why? Mostly because of Jones' knee-buckling performance of "Girl" on a 1971 episode of "The Brady Bunch," during which he agreed to be Marcia's date to the prom. That appearance on "Getting Davy Jones," by the way, is among the most popular "Brady" episodes of all time. </P><P> </P><P>Jones never quite broke out of the Monkees orbit, playing the hits until just a week ago at a February 19 solo gig in Oklahoma. According to accounts, he still had that smile on his face, that wriggle in his hips and that glimmer in his eye. While former boy banders like Justin Timberlake seem at times conflicted over being pigeonholed for what they used to be, well into his fifth decade as a boy-star-turned-man, Jones kept the dream alive, for us, and for himself.</p>

Britney Spears Offered $10 Million To Join 'X Factor'

Contract could be signed as early as next week.
By Gil Kaufman

<P>Simon Cowell has hinted that he wants to reload the judges panel on "X Factor" with two new women and according to reports, he's close to landing a superstar who might make the second season of his talent contest much more interesting. </P><P> </P><P>While names including Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey have been bandied about as possible replacements for <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul,</a>&#8232; the buzz has continued to focus on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a>. A spokesperson for "Factor" could not be reached for comment at press time. </P><P> </P><P>After some major hype from Cowell, "Factor" underperformed in its first season -- putting up solid numbers, but not the gaudy ones Simon had predicted. As a result, he blew up the judging panel, keeping just music executive L.A. Reid by his side and canning host Steve Jones. </P><P> </P><P>If Spears dos take the gig, which <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2012/03/britney-spears-x-factor-10-million-simon-cowell-fox/" target="_blank">Deadline Hollywood</a> reported could come with a $10 million payday, she will join her fellow Mickey Mouse Clubhouse mate Christina Aguilera in the hot seat of a major reality singing show. After a few rough professional and personal years, Aguilera has gone a long way toward reclaiming her A-list status thanks to the success of her performance on "The Voice." </P><P> </P><P>Cowell reportedly reached out personally to Spears to get the conversation rolling and he's been talking her up lately, saying in that same conference call, "are we flattered there would be interest from Britney Spears? Yes." In a later interview, he said he was "fascinated" with Spears and praised her resilience after a rough period during which she endured some very public personal struggles. </P><P> </P><P>Jackson's name was in the hopper until recently, when she revealed that, while flattered by the offer, the TV gig just would not jibe with the <a href="/news/articles/1680297/x-factor-janet-jackson.jhtml">professional commitments</a>&#8232; already on her calendar this year.</p>

Beyonce Looks 'Sexy' Post-Baby, Destiny's Child Vets Say

Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland say the new mom looks 'amazing' and that Blue Ivy is 'beautiful.'

<P>Earlier this week, new mom <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyonc&#233;</a> stepped out to debut her post-baby body for the first time. Decked out one night in a <a href="/news/articles/1678726/beyonce-post-baby-appearance-blue-ivy.jhtml">body-hugging red number</a> and another in a <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/02/08/beyonce-photos-carnegie-hall-night-two ">glittering black cocktail dress</a>, B was out in full force to support her hubby <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jay_z/artist.jhtml">Jay-Z</a> when he took the stage for a two-night engagement at New York's famed <a href="/news/articles/1678669/jay-z-carnegie-hall.jhtml">Carnegie Hall</a>. </P><P> </P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:732758" width="240" height="211"></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>B certainly left her fans speechless with her ability to bounce back to hotness just a month after giving birth to baby Blue Ivy, and her former Destiny's Child pals were equally floored. Michelle Williams dished to MTV News, "Man, "She looks fantastic, amazing, amazing, amazing. I wasn't surprised because even before she was pregnant she had a six pack, she was very toned. So, obviously it just went back very quickly." </P><P> </P><P>Fellow DC gal pal Kelly Rowland also can't handle how Beyonc&#233; is bringing sexy back one hot dress at a time. "She looks fantastic. She looks fantastic. I told her she looks so hot!" Rowland exclaimed. "She looks so hot &#8212; just even sexier. Love her!" </P><P> </P><P>And Williams noted that it's not just Beyonc&#233; who is doing well these days, but so is 1-month-old Blue. "Absolutely! Absolutely [I've seen everyone]!" she said. Katy Perry To Join Ranks Of Pop Stars Turned Big-Screen Stars

Before 'Part Of Me' is released, MTV News takes a look back at recent concert flicks from fellow pop stars like Justin Bieber.
By Jocelyn Vena

This summer, Katy Perry will be taking fans on a candy-coated, 3-D adventure when she drops her first-ever 3-D concert flick, "Part Of Me."

After rumors hit the Web earlier this year that the pop singer was in talks to bring her brand of cotton-candy eye candy to a theater near you, on Wednesday, MTV News confirmed that the flick, named after her current Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection single, will be the latest spectacle to hit the cineplex.

Over the last few years, it has become quite popular for pop stars to film their concerts and bring them to theaters in 3-D. Perry now joins the ranks of "Glee," Miley Cyrus (and her alter-ego Hannah Montana), the Jonas Brothers, Michael Jackson, and, of course, Justin Bieber. So, in the end, did those movies live up to the hype?

"Glee: The 3D Concert Movie"
Released in August 2011, the "Glee" concert movie opened to lots of promotion and hype. Given all the buzz and fandom around the TV show, it seemed poised for big-screen success. However, in its disappointing first week at the box office, it grossed just $5.7 million and landed in 11th place.

"Justin Bieber: Never Say Never"
Justin Bieber hit box-office gold with his part biopic/ part concert flick. The Jon Chu-directed film serves as the gold standard of 3-D concert film releases busting records and raking in tons of dough. Opening over Valentine's Day weekend in 2011, in its opening day it made $12.4 million and nabbed $29.5 million in its opening weekend.

Currently it holds several U.S. records for its theater run, including being the highest-grossing concert movie since 1984 and the third-highest-grossing documentary since 1982. It probably didn't hurt that weeks after the first release, Paramount also dropped "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never - Director's Fan Cut" to give fans even more Bieber for their pleasure.

"Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert"
The film, released at the height of Hannah Montana fandom, grossed a whopping $31.1 million in its one-week, limited-engagement run in February 2008. With a budget of $7 million, it eventually went on to gross $70 million worldwide. As if that wasn't enough success surrounding it, months later, when it premiered on Disney in July, it averaged 5.9 million viewers, and another viewing later that month averaged 20.6 million viewers.

"Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience"
In early 2009, the Jonas Brothers went on the road, flying around the country to special screenings of their 3-D flick to get fans hyped for the release. Filmed during their 2008 tour, it also featured cameos from their superstar pals Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato, as well as eye-catching renditions of their biggest hits. However, in the end, while it didn't do terribly (it made $19.1 million domestically), it also didn't live up to expectations.

"Michael Jackson: This Is It"
Released posthumously in 2009, "This Is It" documents the rehearsals that went into what would have been Jackson's great return to the stage. Directed by Kenny Ortega, it was released in October 2009 and gave Jackson's fans a final glimpse at the star, just days before he passed away in June 2009. The flick raked in $72 million domestically and $261 million worldwide.

Are you planning on seeing "Part of Me" in theaters? Let us know in the comments section!

'Justified' Villain Backs The Winning Side

'He's a bit of a wiseass, and he thinks he's above them all,' Neal McDonough tells MTV News about playing the bleach-blond big bad on the show.
By Josh Wigler

Neal McDonough on "Justified"
Photo: FX

"Justified" lawman Raylan Givens has faced no shortage of memorable nemeses in his days as a Lexington, Kentucky-based U.S. marshal: hoodlums with "four kidneys," an "apple pie"-brewing and weed-slinging mama crime boss, not to mention the born again and born again and born again Boyd Crowder.

But Robert Quarles? In a sea of backwoods Kentucky killers and thieves, this bleach-blond mobster may very well take the cake.

Television veteran and "Captain America" actor Neal McDonough has graced the FX drama "Justified" with his formidable presence for the show's currently airing third season, and viewers are better off for it — even if deputy Givens, the modern-day cowboy played by lead actor and producer Timothy Olyphant, is ruing the day that McDonough's Quarles first set foot in Harlan County.

"It's like two great chess players in the same room," McDonough told MTV News about this season's ongoing battle between Quarles and Givens. "We both learn about each other. We've done our background checks on each other. So we both know we're worthy opponents — but when we get in front of each other, it's pretty awesome, because we're on the opposite sides of the spectrum, but there's a respect level for what each of us does. We're both really good at what we do. But there's also that ultimate disrespect from both of us: 'Don't think you're going to beat me. I'll let you dance with me for a while, but I'm going to crush you.' "

Quarles has already dished out some crushing blows. In just eight episodes, the Detroit mobster has dropped by Raylan's home unannounced, executed the deputy's ex-wife's ex-husband (it's complicated), framed Raylan for the murder and set him up as a dirty cop. None of that mentions Quarles' other atrocities, such as fatally shooting a businessman and his secretary mainly to prove a point, as well as brutally torturing a prisoner while simultaneously fielding a phone call from his very young son. What kind of monster can commit such crimes, you ask? According to McDonough, a very funny one.

"He has a bit of a sense of humor," said McDonough, who has played other villains with significantly fewer wisecracks to their names, including those in "Walking Tall" and "Street Fighter." "This one, Quarles, his tongue is firmly in cheek in a lot of scenes. He's a bit of a wiseass, and he thinks he's above them all. To play that, and then have him unravel, trying to keep that veneer up, is what makes it really fun for me to play."

Indeed, the walls are closing in on Quarles. Raylan Givens is not his only obstacle: Quarles is now completely cut off from the Detroit crime syndicate he once worked for, and is starting to abuse the illicit pain pills he's been pushing in Harlan County.

"He's a lot like me in a lot of ways: a businessman, but family first," McDonough said of his character. "But Quarles gets addicted not just to the rush of power, but worse, to OxyContin. We all know how bad that gets when you're hooked on junk like that."

Just how bad will Quarles' addiction get? The actor teased, "The only thing I've asked of ['Justified' executive producer and show-runner] Graham Yost is that by episode 10 or 11, I'd like to be naked and hopped up on my own stuff. He goes, 'Already thought of that, trust me!' "

"Justified" marks the third collaboration between McDonough and Yost, having previously worked together on "Boomtown" and "Band of Brothers." In fact, Quarles was written specifically with McDonough in mind, said the actor, who added that he would happily work with Yost on any project, anytime, anywhere.

"If Graham Yost called me and said, 'I have a three-minute infomercial to shoot in Bulgaria, are you in?' I'd say, 'Yes, what time is the flight?' " he said. "Graham tells me what to do and I do it. He gives me the juiciest stuff I can imagine as an actor."

The juicy stuff isn't always cruel and unusual, either. McDonough teased an upcoming scene that shows a "beautifully altruistic" side of Quarles that he described as one of his top moments of the season.

"There's one scene in particular where a young boy comes into my trailer threatening to kill me," said McDonough. "How I disarm him, not just physically but emotionally ... it was maybe my favorite scene of the year. It's just simple, emotional, truthful acting. Graham lobbed it in the air for me and I hit it out of the ballyard for him."

In short, to say that Quarles is an astounding addition to the "Justified" rogues' gallery would be a tremendous understatement — and given where the character is headed in the back half of season three, it appears that we haven't seen anything yet.

"The first half of the season was great," McDonough said. "But the second half ... the second half is money. It's fantastic for me as an actor."

Freshly renewed for a fourth season, "Justified" airs on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
