After a lot of turbulence at MGM and several false starts and stops, James Bond will officially be back in "Skyfall," announced early Thursday morning (November 3) at a press conference in London. The cast, led by returning 007 Daniel Craig, and director Sam Mendes appeared for the first time together to officially kick off filming, which begins today. The start date also happens to fall on the same date that Sean Connery was announced as the first Bond 50 years ago.

The press conference began in typical 007 style with the iconic theme song and the reveal of the title "Skyfall," which was more or less expected at this point. Soon after, the cast and Mendes took the stage.

Craig was joined by , who will play the villain, Dame Judi Dench, Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe. Though they weren't present at the conference, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw will also star in the film, as previously reported.

Rumors have been circulating for months now about the supporting cast, and in recent weeks, the title "Skyfall" popped up on movie news websites after several URLs were registered.

In addition to unveiling the title, the press conference also revealed the official plot synopsis for the 23rd Bond film. According to the release, "Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost."

Mendes spoke about the place of "Skyfall" among Craig's other work as Bond, clarifying that the new film will stand on its own and "not connect with the last two movies."
