Lana Del Rey hasn't even announced the tour in support of her Born to Die album, but according to reports, she's already scrapped it in the wake of her now infamous "Saturday Night Live" performance.
On Tuesday (February 7), The New York Post reported that Del Rey's management team has pulled the plug on a planned tour (reportedly set to kick off in March), citing a source who claims the decision was made in order to "distance" the singer from that "SNL" stint.
"[Lana] and her manager decided to cancel [the tour] after 'SNL,' " the source said. "She was very upset ... they figure it allows time for her to clear her head, then go back to selling tickets. More importantly, they figure, the extra time gives them more distance from 'SNL.' "
In an email to MTV News, Del Rey's publicist called the Post story "not accurate," adding, "There has never been a spring tour announced or canceled."
The Post reported that Del Rey was slated to play 30 dates at 1,000- to 3,000-capacity venues across the country, though no dates have been revealed. Last month, Del Rey told MTV News that she planned on touring behind Born to Die in October, in small venues — a decision she said was backed by both her team and her label, Interscope.
"I'm capping every venue at 900 [capacity], because I don't want to perform for more [people] than that," she said. "So what I want to do is three nights in New York, like at Irving Plaza, and then three nights at the El Rey in L.A., and then, in between, do 15 cities, and cap it at 900 venues. And everybody is onboard, so that's what we're going to do."
A spokesperson for Interscope did not respond to MTV News' request for comment on the Post story, though the newspaper does quote a label rep as saying: "Interscope had nothing to do with booking or postponing a tour. [Chairman] Jimmy [Iovine] is excited and thankful that Lana is performing at a Grammy event in his honor this week."
Iovine will be the subject of a special Grammy-week tribute on Wednesday in Los Angeles. Del Rey's only scheduled performance is a Thursday in-store at Amoeba Records in San Francisco. A spokesperson for the store told MTV News that performance has yet to be canceled.
